It seem a hard decision from Google.

If you are regular on Techgearz you might have noticed last year Techgearz featured an article on Colayer, a Google Wave like project which is in market for all most a decade now. I had an exclusive interview with Markus Hegi, CEO Colayer yesterday on twitter. We discussed about Google Wave, Colayer and the future of real time communication. Already 6000 developers are testing and developing apps on Google Wave using Google Wave sandbox. Google Wave Sandbox Ids where distributed at launch of Google Wave to few requested developers.

If you where not the lucky one, this time you might get a chance to have a hand on Google Wave. Google will grant access to first 100,000 user request received, this time it would be developers as well as normal users. They can test beta version of Google Wave.

According to a letter from Google, which i found on internet, Google is now more focusing on the stability and speed of Google Wave and not on new features. Though lots of developers from the open source community is contributing in developing apps for wave.

I am very much sure Company’s like Colayer who are working on virtual contextualized products will be exited from this news and waiting for healthy competition.

Its a product based company, developing a platform to build virtual contextualized workplaces for companies, organizations and networks of professionals. As per the Colayer source they are using this concept for a decade.



The product is called Colayar, this product uses HTTP protocol for the communication. The data transfer is done on a context i.e as soon as the person types something on a window the other person can view the content live b’coz they are on same context.

Well i had a hand on the this product, my first impression was WOW !! .. it was something new for me. Multiple users can work on same content simultaneously like we do in a conference chat.

But there was a difference between the conference chat and Colayar Reception, people can edit the same peace of content simultaneously and you can see who is typing what, word to word.
Everything was happening in real time. I tried uploading a pic in to the conversation … awesome it got uploaded at a great speed and started appearing on the screen as a thumbnail
(have a look on the screen shot below…)

Colayer source claims, at a time 50 people can work simultaneously on a context and its more matured compared to Google Wave. As off now it would be too early for me to comment on this, since i dint had a hand on Wave yet. There are many more thinks in Colayer product to be explored. Soon you can expect some interesting articles on Colayer and Google Wave on TechGearz.

And hope in near future you may find a healthy competition between these two products.

Only couple of questions that come in my mind…

1) Is Colayer an Open Source Product, can anyone modify and implement Colayer Product like Google wave claims to be ??

2) Can Colayer and Google Wave communicate with each other ?? (…ya i know it would be to early to ask this question but still exited to know )
