Recently, a Chinese company has developed smartglasses that help detect one of the symptoms of COVID-19. Basically, the device is developed by Rokid, an artificial intelligence startup that is based in Hangzhou.
According to the reports presented by the well-known media portal, TechCrunch, it uses an infrared sensor to detect up to 200 people with fever in just 3 minutes and at a distance of 3 meters.
These smartglasses are dubbed as T1 and are voice-controlled to take photos and videos. Not only that, even they are also equipped with a Qualcomm processor, a 12-megapixel camera, and augmented reality (AR) technology.
The Chinese startup, Rokid is currently in discussions with several American companies to supply the device and help businesses, hospitals, and security agents of the North American country in the detection of new infections of the disease, which totals more than 2.4 million cases throughout the world and has killed more than 160,000 people.
Moreover, the Chinese company, Rokid, also has a branch in San Francisco, where it offers the Internet of Things (IoT), facial recognition, and data management software.
While now, if we talk about the newly developed smartglasses to detect COVID-19 infection, it can connect via USB and can be configured to sync with commercial customer platforms as well.
However, on the part of information security, the director of the US branch, Liang Guan, has denied that his company collects data through these devices. Here’s what he stated, “We don’t upload any data to the cloud. Privacy is very important to our customers; hence, the data is stored locally.”
Rokid’s smart glasses have already been used in Chinese parks and schools, among other places, to scan the population and control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. And this form of detection is limited, considering that more than half of COVID-19 patients in China did not have a fever at the time of hospitalization.
In short, it could become a revolutionary gadget to detect the infection of COVID-19 in each and every county. However, here the most worrisome part is that the security of data, yes, the maximum number of countries are cautious about the data privacy.
So, what do you think about this? Is these smartglasses are reliable and safe? If so, then do not forget to share all your views and thoughts in the comment section below.
