Meet The World’s First Phone With Fingerprint Sensor Under The Screen: If you remember at the end of 2017, Synaptics Inc. announced a new kind of technology. The company announced a fingerprint sensor that was capable of operating under the smartphone screen. Fingerprint sensor embeds under the screen can eliminate the extra space for the fingerprint sensor.
At that time the company announced that it will showcase the first prototype of this technology during CES 2018. So, the CES 2018 is already held in Las Vegas and the company has fulfilled the promise.
The company showcases a Vivo smartphone at the event that carries thin edges just like Samsung Galaxy S8. However, the phone carried the biometric sensor on the front. The company showed the world’s first smartphone that carried the fingerprint sensor under the display.
The on-screen sensor works in the same way as the capacitive sensor do. Capacitive sensors are present on almost every high-end smartphones now. However, the latest feature also comes with a drawback, the latest technology is a bit slower compared to others.
We can take a look at recent Samsung smartphones, the company has chosen to pack the fingerprint sensor at the back just to reduce the edges around its screen. However, placing the fingerprint sensor at the back also invited some criticism like the sensor was very close to the rear camera lens and this destroys the photography experience.
According to the reports from The Verge, the phone that was shown during CES 2018 is not a fixed model in Vivo. However, the final design of the smartphone should be similar to that shown at the fair.
